Twenty-two year-old Fiorella Mayorga loves living by the Ottawa River.

“I love waking up to the sun rising in my window,” says Fiorella, who has called Aalto home since the fall of 2022 when she moved to the region from Peru.

As a 3rd year Food Science and Nutrition international student at the University of Ottawa, Mayorga was looking for an apartment, by the water, but close enough to transit so that the commute would be simple.

“I take the bus from Zibi and catch the train at Pimisi, and get off right at university,” says Mayorga. “It is very simple.”

In addition to the proximity to transit, and the beautiful views, Mayorga has enjoyed and appreciated the community events that have led her to meet her neighbours and make friends.

“I didn’t have any friends when I moved here from Peru,” she says. “It has been nice to get to know my neighbours through the community events Zibi plans for us.”

She has also enjoyed the Aalto amenities, including the comfortable co-working spaces, and being close to the multi-use pathways along the river.

While getting acclimatized to the Canadian winters has been a challenge for this South American, the views of Parliament Hill and the Ottawa River have helped her ease into her new lifestyle.

“I wouldn’t want to lose that view,” she says.
