A year-end snapshot

As 2024 comes to a close, let us take a moment to look back on how far Zibi has come this year in furthering its’ goal of becoming a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive waterfront community that is both welcoming of residents, workers and visitors alike!

Here’s a look at Zibi’s accomplishments, by the numbers:

1 BORDERLESS COMMUNITY

Zibi spans two provinces, connecting Gatineau on the Québec side, and Ottawa in Ontario. But Zibi is connected by more than a bridge and a zipline! The shared values and commitment to community-building is felt throughout the community, whether at resident events, in its community gardens or in its’ public spaces.

34 ACRES OF REVITALIZED WATERFRONT LAND

A unique blend of residential, commercial, and public spaces on lands brought back to life following 200 years of industrial use and abuse. Today Zibi truly celebrates nature and urban living.

1,000+ PEOPLE LIVING AND WORKING ONSITE

Close to 750 people in five residential buildings are now living in beautifully designed, sustainable homes that offer an inclusive mix of rental, co-living and ownership options throughout the site. And with three commercial buildings now online, Zibi is truly buzzing with life.

100,000 VISITORS TO ZIBI’S EVENTS

Again this year, Zibi proudly hosted Cirque du Soleil, along with over 50 other events, such as the winter Festibière and the Dance at Zibi series, drawing 100,000 Gatineau and Ottawa residents and tourists to its waterfront site and creating unforgettable memories for young and old alike.

80% REDUCTION IN GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Thanks to the Zibi Community Utility district energy system, Zibi is on track to meet its’ goal of being one of the most sustainable developments in Canada.

4 HISTORIC BUILDINGS REPURPOSED

Blending heritage preservation with modern architecture, 4 buildings have been restored and repurposed to create spaces that honour the past while building for the future.

8 CHARITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVED GENEROUS DONATIONS IN 2024

Through partnerships with Dream Community Foundation and with Dream’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Advancement (DIA) programs, Zibi made generous donations to local organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Ottawa Tool Library, Minwaashin Lodge, Moisson Outaouais, and more.

3+ KILOMETERS OF WATERFRONT PATHWAYS

Zibi is connected to the multi-use pathway in Ottawa, and the Sentier des voyageurs in Gatineau. It also boasts its own walking and cycling lanes, as well as two waterfront public parks. Everyone is welcome to Zibi to take a stroll, roll on through or simply meander while soaking in the beauty of the Ottawa River.

2 WATERFRONT PARKS

Pangishimo (sunset) and Tesasini (flat rock) parks are now open to the public in Ottawa and Gatineau and offer some of the best views and resting places on the downtown shores of the Ottawa River.

NET ZERO CARBON EMISSIONS BY DESIGN

Zibi continues to lead the way in sustainable living through its One Planet Living commitment to energy-efficient buildings, water conservation, and green initiatives, to name a few.

4,000 NATIVE PLANTS AND TREES

Carefully chosen and planted across the site, more than 64 different species of native plants and trees, 34 of which are culturally or historically significant, enhance biodiversity, have restored habitats, and connect the community to the natural environment.

The numbers bear out. As Zibi continues to grow and evolve, so does its commitment to creating a welcoming community where anyone can live, work, and play.
