Zibi set to open its first net-zero residential rental building

Aalto will be welcoming residents before the end of 2021

Zibi’s first residential rental experience, Aalto, is set to welcome its first residents this December. The 15-storey building, located at 10 Jos Montferrand in downtown Gatineau, will feature 162 units, many of which are universal, accessible and adaptable, some affordable, and all carbon neutral.

With the arrival of Aalto, and other planned residential buildings, Zibi is bringing a much needed housing supply to Gatineau’s downtown area, in line with la Ville de Gatineau’s objectives for urban revitalization.

Located on the shores of the Ottawa River, Aalto is Zibi’s breakthrough rental building, offering an unparalleled rental experience in Canada’s most sustainable community.

Zibi’s district energy system, which will heat and cool all 4 million square feet of the waterfront city’s residential and commercial buildings, connects at the base of Aalto, making this building  the cornerstone of the community’s net-zero ambitions.

“As the showcase building for the district energy system, renters can move in guilt-free knowing their unit is heated and cooled using the cold water from the Ottawa River and effluents from the neighbouring Kruger plant,” said Justin Robitaille, Vice President of Development Dream Unlimited.  “And with breathtaking views of the Chaudière Falls, Parliament Hill and many other Ottawa landmarks, Aalto is a very attractive option for eco-minded renters.”

With its connection to hundreds of kilometers of bike paths, its proximity to Gatineau Park, the SJAM ski trail, and transit, Aalto is ideal for those looking for active downtown living with a reduced carbon footprint.

“We’ve noticed a trend during this pandemic of renters looking for more versatility in their living accommodations, which is exactly what Aalto offers inside and out,” continued Robitaille.

Amenities in Aalto x Zibi include a fitness center, theatre room, party room, shared terrace, games room, coworking lounge, and bike parking. The building is located in the heart of the 34-acre master-planned Zibi community, which is transforming into a bustling waterfront city with 8 acres of parks and plazas, dozens of shops and restaurants, event spaces and a hotel, office buildings, and residences.
